“All appears to change when we change…”
H.F. Amiel
Located in the SE coastal North Carolina (Shallotte) area in person or via tele-health, I am an ally to the therapist and partner to the treatment team for adjunct support providing hands-on accountability to the client...and support for the individual who needs more than peer encouragement to attain full independence after program discharge. I offer a practical approach to strengthen recovery in everyday life.
Meet Laurie,
Recovery Coach
My practice is for clients who have completed treatment but are not yet ready for complete independence. Program clinicians or individual therapists can discharge a patient with peace of mind knowing that their client will have the support they need to keep them on track as they transition from therapeutic care to a self-determined life and self-sufficiency.
Experience
I am a mental health professional with over 30 years’ experience working with conditions including the treatment of eating disorders, depression/anxiety, substance use disorder and ADHD. As an adjunct therapist, in addition to a practical approach, my certification is in expressive therapies and experiential interventions. With these skills, I provide an extra layer of support as ally to the individual therapist and an invaluable addition to the out-patient team to see the client reach full recovery.
A Partner in Recovery
I am a hands-on Recovery Coach using realistic, applicable tools, often working in conjunction with a client’s individual therapist to put into action agreed-upon goals with a post-treatment plan that supports and strengthens recovery in the client’s everyday life. I work by the client’s side to put goals into action and help bridge the gap between treatment and life in the real world. This approach reinforces that firm footing in a stable recovery is manageable and attainable.
Wellness Lifestyle - Assessment & Plan
I work with individuals who need a strategy to develop a constructive and fulfilling lifestyle through an in-depth leisure values assessment that also pinpoints vulnerable free time. This is an especially crucial element of recovery for substance use and those struggling with eating disorders who seek to discover who they are/can be with a tool to replace destructive thoughts and behaviors via a recovery-affirming wellness plan.
Family Support
Families suffer watching a family member struggle and want to be supportive. However, over-involvement and “policing” the loved one can be fraught with boundary issues and result in resentment and stress. If you are an outreach clinician who seeks continued weekly support for families once the PHP or IOP program concludes, I offer individual sessions for families that provide a safe space for venting, processing, education, support, and selectively employ experiential interventions to address identified struggles.
